Ocean Waves Quilt Camp
The Perfect Get Away!
October 22-25, 2009
This is the 18th Annual Ocean Waves Quilt Camp. Our camp
has been a great success in the past and we expect this year will be the very
best ever!
Twin Rocks Friends Camp offers the perfect location for a
get away weekend. The ocean and Spring Lake are a short walk away. Great for
stretching your legs and getting a breath of fresh air. Our classrooms are in
Hadley Hall, Arts & Crafts, Meeting House and Macy Chapel. We have sleeping
facilities in Hadley Hall, Shorebird, Heron, Pelican, Sandpiper and Osprey. We
can house 4-8 quilters per sleeping room. Perfect for your quilt group. The
classrooms are sunny and spacious. The dining area is most accommodating and
the food is incredible. We will provide you with food, fun, food, festivities,
great classes with incredibly great teachers. If you have never attended camp
you will soon find that food is our number one priority at camp.
Registration will start at 10:00 am on Thursday, October
22rd
Classes will begin after lunch on Thursday at 1:00 pm.
You will enjoy three days of quilting fun and return home
exhausted. Continental Breakfast will be served on Sunday the 25th.
We have some outstanding teachers lined up. In fact, many are returning
from previous years. You don’t want to be left out so sign up early, as
class size is limited. If there are fewer than 8 signed up for a class, we may have
to cancel it. I am looking forward to seeing each of you at camp!!!!!

Thursday Classes
Feathered Star * Linda Peck
The
Radiant Feathered Star block is full of possible color options. We will go
over many of those choices in class as you make a single block wall hanging or
table topper. Once you have mastered the piecing technique and decided on
color placement you will be ready to go home and tackle a full size quilt or
move on to a more complex Feathered Star. Skill level: Beginner Plus to
Advanced
Table for Four * Linda Ballard
Four
fabrics plus a background is all it takes to make this great looking quilt.
Easy piecing, some great techniques and lots of enjoyment when it comes to
piecing it. Do like I did if you wish…..make the background a dark and watch
your fabrics’come to life’! There are several sizes to choose from. Skill
level: Beginner Plus to Advance
Piping Hot Curves * Victoria Jones
Victoria
loves both piping and curves and these projects have them both. Learn great
techniques for using piping and creating fabulous looking quilts and wall
hangings. You’ll play with color, curves, and piping – what could be more fun!
The curves are easy as they are NOT pieced into the block but instead are top
stitched. Choose one of three different projects in the ‘Piping Hot Curves’
book; Piping hot Macaroni, Piping Hot Lanterns and Eye of the Piper.
Nature’s Sample * June Jaeger (two day class)
In
this unique sampler class you will have a lot of options to personalize your
quilt. You can create the size that suits your needs, the technique, your
personal colors and block placement. In class, June will teach different types
of appliqué, perfect piecing, block sizing and how to use color to keep the eye
moving throughout the quilt.. This tree theme can be combined with other
subjects to further personalize your quilt. This two day workshop is designed
for the quilter who has basic cutting and piecing skills, but all are welcome.
Yes, the pattern uses fusible web to speed up the process.
Pretty in Pink * Peggy Gelbrich
A
pre-constructed 9-Patch is cut with a template creating the Glorified Nine Patch
look. A half almond shape is sewn on the sides creating a 9” block. Some
curved piecing but easier than it looks. Skill: Intermediate Quilter
Yin Yang * Lee Fowler
Yin
Yang is probably my most popular class…..everyone loves this one. It’s a
combination of invisible machine appliqué and foundation piecing. I have done
four different versions of this quilt and it’s really fun. The Yin Yang blocks
tessellate so there are lots of interesting ways to make this quilt.
Fort Sumter * Kennette Blotzer
This
is a quilt pattern by Clothesline Quilts. It looks great in Civil War fabrics
or any other fabrics of your choice. Five fabrics are used and it may be made
in two sizes – 40x47 or 69x82. Skill Level: Beginner
Rangeley Stars * Linda Stellar
This
quilt is made with 3 different size star blocks. The piecing is easy and
fun. Linda will teach you the “secrets” of putting these blocks together.
The design can be made into a table runner up to a queen/king size quilt. This
design comes from Deb Tucker at Studio 180 Desicn, Ltd.
Friday Classes
“Mystery at Twin Rocks” *
Linda Ballard
No description on this class ‘cause it is a secret.
Miniature Quilts *
Linda Peck
Bring your scraps or fat quarters and turn them into
wonderful “little quilts”. We will go over different methods to make working
with small pieces easier and more accurate. You will be given a variety of
patterns to choose from. There will be something for all skill levels. I will
also show you how to change a large block to a small block!!
Award Winning Appliqué Technique * Ronda Beyer
Learn simple appliqué technique
used by award winning quilters Sharon Schamber and me. Learn the simplicity of
this technique for machine or hand appliqué finishing.
Vest and Fibers * Victoria Jones
This
is a class Victoria taught a couple of years ago. Learn how to create your own
fabric using bits and pieces of fabric. There is no fusing in this project,
you’ll use channels of stitching to hold the bits of fabric to a foundation
fabric. Make your own fabric to use in a garment (vest) tote bag or quilt
blocks, etc. You’ll never look at a scrap of fabric the same way again!
Hunter’s Star * Peggy Gelbrich
The
Hunter’s Star pattern makes a striking two color quilt. This pattern, also
called Indian Arrowhead, was published in the “Workbasket” magazine in 1934.
Get diamonds with perfect points without ever cutting a diamond shape. Learn an
easy method to achieve those points and matching centers to create this
eye-catching quilt. The diamonds and diagonal seams lend to mitered borders.
Learn how to measure, cut and sew border strips to get those perfect miters.
Animal Chain * Lee Fowler
This
was a very popular class at last years camp so we are offering it again. A
perennial favorite that has fusible appliqué combined with simple piecing. Very
beginner friendly.
Winter Liberty * Kennette Blotzer
Kennette
developed this pattern originally as a mystery class! Well it is no longer a
mystery. This is a diagonal set design and can be made in different sizes.
Beginner friendly.
Saturday Classes
Earth,Wind & Fire *
Linda Ballard
This quilt is a “WOW” one……Stars floating in a log cabin
set with a chain running through the entire quilt. This is a 3 color quilt, but
each color has multiple fabrics. So basically you might say it’s a planned
scrap quilt. The quilt has some great techniques, speed sewing and playing with
your final layout.
Zig Zag Ohio Star *
Linda Peck
This
traditional Ohio Star Block in a zig-zag setting is a winner. We’ll use Marsha
McCloskey’s Precision Trimmer” ruler to make perfect quarter square triangles.
You’ll learn how to set this or any other block into a zig-zag setting. Tips
for making a pieced border to fit your quilt top will also be discussed.
Dresden Star * Ronda
Beyer
This
is a pattern from “Laundry Basket Quilts”. This incredible technique will open
the door to endless opportunities for creating one of the most difficult points
and create a wonderful quilt no matter what fabrics you select. This quilt is
51 x 68.
By the Sea * Victoria
Jones
This
was a popular class last year and everyone had a great time. A fun ‘skinny’
quilt and can be a great way to step out of the traditional without committing
to a large project. You can make this your own by playing with you fabric
choices and changing to a landscape rather than a seascape. The piecing is VERY
easy as it is topstitched rather than pieced.
Creative Table Runner &
Placemats * June Jaeger
You
get to be the creative decision maker, choosing one of June’s sampler patterns:
Horsin’ Around, Nature’s Sample, Gone Fishin’, From the Wild, Saddle Up or Cat
Nipped to make your theme table runner and place mats. In class you can
complete this fusible appliqué project while learning different appliqué and
finishing methods. Prairie points will be covered as well as other decorative
techniques. You will have fun personalizing your set in this one-day worshop
designed for all levels of quilters and non-quilters.
Rolling Pinwheels *
Peggy Gelbrich
While
making this 1930’s Quilt you’ll get comfortable with the 60 degree line on your
ruler. This block looks more difficult than it is and goes together easily
using strip piecing and paratial seams. This quilt would be comfortable for the
confident beginner.
Cascade * Lee Fowler
The Cascade quilt consists of simple, pieced blocks that
form a cascade of colors punctuated by black and white. This is a fun quilt to
play with color and value gradation. Technically, there are two different
blocks in the quilt, the same really but mirror images depending on whether it
has black or white in it. The blocks are 6” finished and there are 96 blocks in
the quilt. The finished quilt size is 48x72.
Quilter’s Tote *
Kennette Blotzer
This tote is a quilter’s favorite because it will hold all
sorts of things! Use a novelty print, your favorite fabric or an unfinished
project to create this roomy “Quilter’s Tote”. But don’t pack too much into it
or you won’t be able to carry it. Come away with a finished project!
