Ocean Waves Quilt Camp
The Perfect Get Away!
October 23 - 26, 2008
This is the 17 Annual Ocean Waves Quilt Camp. Our camp has been a
great success in the past and we expect this year will be the very best ever!
Twin Rocks Friends Camp offers the perfect location for a get away weekend. The
ocean and Spring Lake are a short walk away. Great for stretching your legs and
getting a breath of fresh air. Our rooms and classrooms are in Hadley Hall, Arts
& Crafts, Meeting House and Macy Chapel. We have sleeping facilities in Chinook,
Willamette, Chehalelm, Wyeast and Cammack Cabins. We can house 4-8 quilters per
sleeping room. Perfect for your quilt group. The classrooms are sunny and
spacious. The dining area is most accommodating and the food is incredible. We
will provide you with food, fun, food, festivities, great classes with
incredibly great teachers. If you have never attended camp you will soon find
that food is our number one priority at camp.
Registration will start at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 23
Classes will begin after lunch on Thursday at 1:00 pm.
You will enjoy three days of quilting fun and return home
exhausted. Continental Breakfast will be served on Sunday the 26 . We have some
outstanding teacher lined up. In fact, many are returning from previous years.
You don't want to be left out so sign up early, as class size is limited. We are
including pictures of most of the classes being offered. Hopefully, it will
assist you when making your class selections. If there are fewer than 8 signed
up for a class, we may have to cancel it. I am looking forward to seeing each of
you at camp!!!!!
Teaching Staff
Sharyn Craig is our featured teacher. This is her third
trip to OWQC! She has a BA in Home Economics from San Diego University. She has
been quilting since 1978 and teaching since 1980. We feel fortunate to have her
coming to camp. This will be her last venue as she is retiring from traveling to
teach! Her classes will fill fast…so sign up early!
Linda Peck…. has been attending or teaching at camp for
17 years. We call her the “Queen of Scrappy,” so if you like the scrappy look,
you must sign up for one of her classes.
June Jaeger….We are always happy to have her teach at
Camp! She has launched her “Log Cabin Quiltworks” pattern company and had her
first booth at Quilt Market. Her class is a three day design class.
Kennette Blotzer….comes from Springfield, Oregon and is
the owner of Something to Crow About. She loves working with wool and will once
again do a wool class.
Goldie Olson…lives in Chico, California and has been a
camper for several years and been teaching at OWQC since 2004. She is passing on
her love of quilting through the classes she teaches here and in Northern
California.
Lee Fowler….has been teaching at OWQC since 2006. She is
especially enamored with circles and uses lot of fabrics in her quilts. Her
motto is “More is better.”

some of her new quilt designs. This will be her 10 year atOWQC.

She has been teaching atACommon Thread and also at NW Quilt Expo. She loves
teaching garment and quilting!

She has recently relocated fromWashington state to Yamhill, Oregon. She loves
traditional quilts using her favorite method of piecing and needle-turn
appliqué.
Study Hall
We will have an area set aside for anyone who wants to work
independently. We’ve had a good response to this option! Our space will be
limited again this year because they have removed the Midship Building. Please
bring your own lights and cords for study hall space.
Saturday Evening Show & Tell
Please bring your quilts, wall hangings or other related
projects to share with your fellow campers. We would also like to have a few to
hand around the classroom for all to enjoy. We will also do a Class Project Show
and Tell at this time. This will give you more time at your sewing machines to
complete your class projects!

Thursday Classes
Hands All Around •
Sharyn Craig
This
beautiful old block features both curves and set in piecing. Let Sharyn guide
you through this fabulous block. Setting options will be another focus of the
workshop. ($10.00 supply fee for templates)
Smoothing Iron • Linda Peck
This
is an old traditional pattern, perfect for using lots of scraps or a theme print
and some coordinates. The 60 degree Clearview Triangle and some tips on trimming
points make it an easy and fun quilt.
Design and Create Workshop • June Jaeger
In this three day workshop you will have the opportunity to
design your own quilt pattern and honestly construct the top. June will assist
you in design elements and techniques to create your personal “one of a kind”
quilt. If you have started something and don't know where to go with it, June
can help you master that too! Design until your heart is content.
Rocky Road to Kansas •
Peggy Gelbrich
 The
Rocky Road to Kansas pattern dates back to the 1800's. It was most likely named
for the arduous journey the settlers made during their trip west. Make your
quilt in fabrics representative of the time or celebrate the present with
something new. The new quilting methods of freezer paper piecing make this quilt
an easy project.
Gummie Dots •
Goldie Olson
(2 day class)
 A
Judy Niemeyer pattern that shows how to chain piece paper piecing. This project
will make you smile the whole way thru making it!
Gaggle of Geese •
Linda Ballard
The
question with this quilt will be what part is `the block` and what part is the
sashing and corner square. This quilt will be a scrap quilt but somewhat
controlled. You will find a color scheme then select a number of fabrics (7)
within that color family, then add light and a contrast.
Circle of Friends •
Kennette Blotzer
This
is a “Miss Rosie Pattern”. It is a scrappy quilt done in the popular Miss Rosie
style. I used triangle paper which made the quilt easier to put together along
with the triangle.
Mismatched Medley Jacket •
Victoria Jones
An oversized jacket which lends itself to many different fabrics. It can be
elegant or funky depending on fabric selection. Pattern included Women's sizes
Small, Medium, and Large. The pattern shows this as a short (waist length)
jacket. I will show you how to lengthen it and make it your own. I will be
showing you how to embellish your jacket using flanges, piping, covered buttons,
glitz, beads, yarns, and much more. The sky is the limit!
Friday Classes
A Compass for Almost All Quilters •
Sharyn Craig
If
you can sew a quarter-inch seam fairly accurately, then you're ready for this
compass. You'll love how fast and easy it is to make this gorgeous block. The
large scale of the block makes it the perfect candidate for those large scale
prints you've been saving for just the right quilt. But whether you go with
traditional prints, plaids, batiks, or whatever, the blocks and quilts are
winners.
Lemoyne Star Sampler •
Linda Peck
(2 day Class)
Learn
to draft the Lemoyne star and it's many variations in size you please. After
drafting your blocks you will learn how to piece them with accuracy. The
patterns for the sample will be available in class. Once you get started, you'll
be amazed at how many possibilities there are with the Lemoyne Star.
Pineapple •
Peggy Gelbrich
 A
symbol or hospitality and welcome, the pineapple was developed into a quilt
pattern and published in the 1890's. Construction of this quilt requires no
special ruler or paper piecing, only a square ruler. Choose three fabrics with
good contrast or make it scrappy.
Latitudes •
Linda Ballard
This
quilt works with value in a color family, but feel free to mix and match colors,
as long as the value is taking place. The quilt may look hard, but in all
honesty, it's really quite simple. There are several sizes to choose from but
you can always make the quilt any size. As to techniques, you will be amazed at
how easy it goes together…It's Magic!
Animal Chain •
Lee Fowler
A
perennial favorite that has fusible appliqué combined with simple piecing. Very
beginner friendly
It's AWrap Basket or Bowl or Tote Bag •
Victoria Jones
This
class was offered last year with much success. We have many requests to repeat
it. Wrap, wind and sew a new basket or ??? for your home. You'll wrap fabric
strips around cord, coil into desired shapes and secure it with machine
stitching. What could be easier?
Saturday Classes
Half Log Cabin •
Sharyn Craig
New,
improved, better than ever! This new method is even easier than before. Strip
trading starts the fun rolling for this scrap variation of the Half Log Cabin
Block. All levels of experience and the focus is techniques and FUN!
Rising Sun • Peggy
Gelbrich
Learn
a variety of techniques in making this Rising Sun quilt. Atraditional old
pattern, the rings are paper pieced in the round using freezer paper then pieced
together and set into the background; add the center with a little appliqué.
Winner's Bouquet •
Goldie Olson
You
will be amazed when I show you how simple curve piecing can be done. All cutting
is done with your rotary cutter. Sizes from wall to king are available.
Around the Block •
Linda Ballard
Based
on a traditional block, this quilt has a great 'clean' look to it. Based on 3
fabrics, you'll find the piecing is fairly simple and goes quite easily. I'll
offer the quilt in two sizes but could easily be adapted to any size.
Elizabeth •
Kennette Blotzer
This
is a large embellishment bag or sewing accessory bag. Designed by Sue Spargo.
You can create your own exterior design to personalize for yourself or a friend.
Kennette has created her's to depict her love of country, crows, moon, stars
etc. Let your imagination sour!
Egg Drop Soup •
Lee Fowler
This
is a “liberated” technique…lots of fun…beginner friendly and uses lots of
fabrics!
By the Sea •
Victoria Jones
This
is a “Skinny Quilt” from the book 'Skinny quilts and Table Runners' from That
Patchwork Place. Create your own commemorative wall hanging as a memento of
Ocean Waves Quilt Camp. This project uses a very easy curved piecing technique
for the waves and then creates LOTS of room for embellishment with beads,
shells, threads, yarn and lace.!
