Ocean
Waves Quilt Camp
“The
Perfect Get Away!”
October
20-23, 2011
This is the 20th Annual Ocean Waves Quilt Camp. Our camp
has been a great success in the past and we expect this year will be the very
best ever!
Twin Rocks Friends Camp offers the perfect location for a
get away weekend. The ocean and Spring Lake are a short walk away. Great for
stretching your legs and getting a breath of fresh air. Our classrooms are in
Hadley Hall, Arts & Crafts, Meeting House and Macy Chapel. We have sleeping
facilities in Hadley Hall, Shorebird, Heron, Pelican, Sandpiper and Osprey. We
can house 4-8 quilters per sleeping room. Perfect for your quilt group. The
classrooms are sunny and spacious. The dining area is most accommodating and
the food is incredible. We will provide you with food, fun, food, festivities,
great classes with incredibly great teachers. If you have never attended camp
you will soon find that food is our number one priority at camp.
Registration will start at 10:00 am on Thursday, October
20th
Classes will begin after lunch on Thursday at 1:00 pm.
You will enjoy three days of quilting fun and return home
exhausted. Continental Breakfast will be served on Sunday the 25th.
We have some outstanding teachers lined up. In fact, many are returning from
previous years. You don’t want to be left out so sign up early, as class size
is limited. We are including pictures of most of the classes being offered.
Hopefully, it will assist you when making your class selections. If there are
fewer than 8 signed up for a class, we may have to cancel it. I am looking
forward to seeing each of you at camp!!!!!

Camp! She has launched her “Log Cabin Quiltworks” pattern company and has added
many new designs to her collection.

owner of “Something to Crow About”. She has been at camp for 20 years. Check
out her class selection for this year!

some of her new quilt designs. This will be her 13th year at OWQC.
Quilter’s love her different approach to piecing her quilt designs.
Victoria Jones….comes to us from the Lake Oswego area. She
has been teaching at A Common Thread and also at NW Quilt Expo. She loves the
challenge of intricate quilt designs and gives her students a new approach to
curves and points! She will be bringing her computer to camp this year to
assist her students in the Cinco de Mayo class.
Peggy Gelbrich…will be returning for her 8th
year at OWQC. She has recently relocated from Washington state to Yamhill,
Oregon. She loves traditional quilts using her favorite method of piecing and
needle-turn appliqué.
Study Hall
We will have an area set aside for anyone who wants to work
independently. We’ve had a good response to this option! Our space will be
limited again this year because they have removed the Midship Building.
Please bring your own lights and cords for study hall space.

CLASS DESCRIPTION
THURSDAY CLASSES
Take
a Trip * Linda Peck
Planning
and executing a Trip Around the World Quilt. You will learn how to determine
the size and shape of your quilt, table runner or wall hanging. We will make a
small wall hanging, pillow or baby quilt in class so you can learn this fun
method of piecing an old time favorite “Trip Around the World!
Expressions
*
June Jaeger
This is
your chance to become the designer. June will guide you through the design
process to create your own design/pattern. Your quilt will be your one of a
kind quilt to suit your desires in this three day workshop. Problem solving is
one of June’s specialties. The use of “Y” seams, stretchers, color, intensity
and value are some of the helpful hints discussed in class. This is a hands on
class and you will be sewing and designing your project in class.

"Collection for a Cause" Faith * Kennette Blotzer
Starting out with one single
block ….you will try different blocks as you build the various rounds of this
Medallion style quilt. This quilt is based upon an original 1840-1860 that was
found in Massachusetts. A great quilt with lots of borders. Size 78x90
Pattern provided.
IT’S A
MYSTERY!!!! * Linda Ballard
Linda’s Mystery
Quilts are always fun! And a big Surprise! I can’t say too much
because………………it’s a surprise!
CINCO
DE MAYO * Victoria Jones
A wonderful paper pieced project that can be made with up to
36 blocks for a 72”x 72” (without additional borders) quilt. This project is a
wildly fun project that can be made by someone new to paper-piecing or can also
challenge someone who has done lots of paper piecing. There is a unique
technique that can be used on some of the arcs. A project that will use lots of
color and print fabrics – come explore your wild side.

PICKLE DISH
* Peggy Gelbrich
Pickle Dish quilt is a fun variation of the Double Wedding
Ring. It is also referred to Indian Wedding Ring. The arc will be paper pieced
using freezer paper, so no paper to tear from the seams. You’ll also learn
curved piecing. Make yours very traditional or more modern with your fabric
choices.
FRIDAY CLASSES
VINTAGE
STARS * Linda Peck
This is a great block and lends itself well
to any fabric style. The reproduction fabrics and zig-zag setting in the sample
make it look like an antique, but you can brighten it up or switch to brights.
You will also have some setting options
BITS & PIECES *
Linda Ballard
This traditional quilt is a joy to piece, loaded with
techniques that will make the piecing go together quickly. The quilt uses
3 fabrics, and it’s all about the value…Light, medium and dark. Now it’s
up to you what you consider light, medium and dark. Use several colors,
only use one color scheme, it’s good whichever way you go. I love the
richness in this quilt, and went with 3 different colors! Adding a pieced
border to the other 3 borders only added the ‘wow’ factor to the quilt. I
offer this quilt in several sizes.
BORDERS AND BINDINGS *
Peggy Gelbrich
Learn how to plan for the borders, plain, mitered or pieced.
Give your quilt some punch with a unique pieced border. Bring your quilt top to
class and plan and begin construction on a border that will compliment your
quilt. Do you struggle with getting the binding and corners just right? Learn
what those quilt show judges are looking for!
SATURDAY CLASSES
KALIEDOSCOPE
STARS *
Linda Peck
A tricky way to do inset seams using folded corners makes
this block a lot easier than it looks. The corners of the blocks come together
and create more stars. This one is great with a black background and brights.
FRENCH
LAVENDER PINCUSHION * Kennette Blotzer
Another great wool class with Kennette. She will make-up kits
for you if you wish! She also fills this pincushion with lavender. A very
relaxing class with a bit of embroidery.
PIECES
FROM THE PAST *
Linda Ballard
Do you have a stash of fat quarters that need to be used up?
Then let's get them out and use them in this new pattern that Linda created. The
techniques are plentiful, playing with the components is a must because the
final block can be something totally different than what you see. Ideas will be
plentiful... Hope to see you in class! Beginner Plus to advanced.
TUTTI-FRUITI-PAPER PIECING * Victoria
Jones
This design looks complicated, but Victoria teaches you easy
techniques to stitch a magnificent, octagon-shaped wall hanging or table topper
with sharp points and precise triangles & miters!
STORM
AT SEA * Peggy Gelbrich
This class was so popular last year that we are offering it
again! So if you were not able to get in the class last year here’s your
chance……….Storm at Sea gives the illusion of the rolling ocean. There is a
great deal of movement without any curved pieces. This pattern dates back to
the 1930’s and is easily made today with a new technique trimming the units to a
perfect size creating a perfect fit. It’s a great two color quilt or make yours
scrappy with a variety of values.

Saturday Evening Show & Tell
Please bring your quilts, wall hangings or other related
projects to share with your fellow campers. We would also like to have a few
to hand around the classroom for all to enjoy. We will also do a Class
Project Show and Tell at this time. This will give you more time at your
sewing machines to complete your class projects!
